True North Safaris is an Indigenous owned tour company located in Canada’s Northwest Territories (NWT). We offer a wide range of authentic northern experiences including wilderness lodging, fishing, Aurora viewing, wildlife viewing and ice-road tours.
We have been providing outfitting services in the central Barrenlands since1983, and have an intimate connection this special land. Our professional and knowledgeable staff are here to provide you with an unforgettable experience in a safe and enjoyable environment.
We offer three unique wilderness-lodging experiences. Our flagship property is Mackay Lake Lodge, located at the edge of the tree line in the scenic Barrenlands. A one-hour flight from Yellowknife, Mackay Lake Lodge combines rustic character with modern comforts, featuring private cabin accommodations, electricity, indoor plumbing, a lounge and a restaurant style kitchen. The pristine waters of Mackay Lake are teeming with giant Lake Trout, Northern Pike and Arctic Grayling, and there is an abundance of wildlife in the area.
For those looking for a more hands-on experience, Warburton Bay Lodge, located on the western shore of Mackay Lake, functions as a self-catered lodging facility.
Wild Aurora Bear Camp, located a 90-minute drive southwest of Yellowknife, provides excellent Aurora viewing, fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities. For those guests seeking an authentic cultural experience, day trips to the communities of Behchoko and Fort Providence can be incorporated into the adventure. Accommodations at the camp include cabins and tent frames with heat and electricity. Sleeping bags are provided. Breakfast and dinner are served at the camp, while packed lunches are provided for the day excursions.
